WhatsApp Introduces AR Features for Enhanced Video and Audio Calls | New Updates 2024

AR Features to Enhance WhatsApp Calls

WhatsApp, the world's leading instant messaging app, frequently updates its features to enhance usability and user satisfaction. Recently, WhatsApp updated the status tab from a circular to a square design, offering a refreshed experience for Android users.

According to WA Beta Info, WhatsApp's latest beta version 2.24.13.14 on the Google Play Store hints at an exciting new AR feature. This feature will bring call effects and filters, adding a fun and interactive element to video calls.

A shared screenshot reveals WhatsApp is testing new AR effects and filters, expected in a future update. With the help of these impacts, viewers will be able to add dynamic face filters to their video conversations, like a low-light setting for improved visibility in low light and a touch-up tool for smoother skin.  This will enhance the visual experience and provide a more engaging way to connect with friends and family.

Background Editing and More

WA Beta Info also reports that WhatsApp is developing a background editing feature for calls. This will be especially useful in group calls, allowing users to customize their backgrounds or blur distractions. This feature will also be available on Desktop apps, offering larger screens and better editing capabilities. This is especially useful in formal situations or when making in-depth background modifications while on the phone.

WhatsApp intends to add a number of effects to video calls as well to these functions to make them more engaging. Users will soon be able to use avatars instead of their real-time video feed, offering a creative way to express themselves. This feature adds a playful element and helps maintain privacy.

WhatsApp's AR features for call effects and filters are still in development and will be available in a future update.

New Calling Screen Interface

Earlier reports indicated that WhatsApp updated its calling screen interface in beta version 2.24.12.14 for Android. This revamp aimed to modernize and improve the overall calling experience. The updated interface features a sleeker design, a larger profile photo, and enhanced visual clarity for the bottom calling bar. These changes help users identify and interact with their contacts more easily during calls.

Updated Status Section

The new status section design changes the profile display from a circular to a square format. Additionally, a status preview feature allows users to preview a status update without clicking on it, giving them more control over what they view.

Gradual Rollout of Updates

We're rolling out the current state look at functionality little by bit. Users who have not yet received the update should expect it in the coming days.

Enhanced Video Calling Features

WhatsApp recently added three new features to its video calling function: screen-sharing, an increased participant count, and a speaker spotlight. These updates bring WhatsApp on par with competitors like Zoom, FaceTime, and Google Meet. Initially introduced in August last year, the screen-sharing feature now includes audio sharing, allowing users to watch videos with friends and family during a call.

The participant count for video calls has also been updated. The new version supports up to 32 participants in a single video call, regardless of the device. Previously, the limit was 32 participants on mobile devices, 16 on Windows, and 8 on macOS.

With these updates, WhatsApp continues to innovate and enhance the user experience, keeping it a top choice for communication worldwide.
